The Challenge:

When launching my e-commerce eyewear business, I encountered a significant challenge: unlike apparel, the industry has not yet fully embraced online sales. I believe this stems from the highly personal nature of the product—since we wear sunglasses on our face, it’s natural for customers to be especially critical of how they look. My main challenge was to build enough trust with prospective buyers to encourage them to purchase our frames without the opportunity to try them on. As a new brand with limited credibility and a premium price point, overcoming this skepticism was even more difficult.

PROJECT BRIEF:

Capture high-quality, visually appealing product images that accurately represent Les Monts' latest collection. The photographs should enhance the website’s aesthetic, increase user engagement, and drive online sales by showcasing the products in the best possible light.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION:

This project involved a comprehensive e-commerce product photoshoot for www.lesmonts.com. As director, my aim was to capture imagery that both highlighted the artistry of our products and conveyed a sense of boldness and intimacy. I sought to generate photography so compelling and striking that viewers would feel as if the images were within their reach. The final deliverables comprised meticulously optimized images designed to enhance the website’s visual appeal, engage customers, and foster increased interaction. From thorough pre-shoot preparations to detailed post-production, I managed every detail to ensure a seamless process and timely delivery, all while maintaining unwavering fidelity to the brand’s refined standards.

The Task:

My goal was to curate product photography that provided an immersive experience; to make customers feel as though the sunglasses on the screen were actually in their hands. I also wanted to capture the warmth and authenticity that naturally accompany handmade creations. To me, this was crucial, as it introduced an essential layer of genuine human connection between the viewer and the artisan crafting each piece.

My Approach:

To capture the preciousness of our wearables, I framed object as artifact. I focused on creating beautifully detailed editorial product photography that highlighted the craftsmanship, artistry, and intricate details of each frame. I used macro shots and artistic lighting to enhance texture, depth, and perception of quality. The images showcased different angles and face shapes, emphasizing how the frames flatter various features.

Stylistically:

Tone & Mood

  • Clean and Sophisticated

  • Minimal distractions—focus on the eyewear itself.

  • Editorial influence remains present, but always in service of clarity.

Lighting & Background Lighting:

  • Soft, diffused lighting - reveals detail without glare.

  • Background: Neutral, textured tones (off-white, stone, soft gray, or warm black) that echo the brand’s refined aesthetic.

Color & Finish:

  • True-to-life color representation. Frames must match the physical product.

  • Retain richness and depth of tone—avoid oversaturation or washed-out imagery.

  • Subtle film-like grain may be used to keep images warm and tactile rather than sterile.

Composition:

*Angled floating frontal

*Straight on / Hero

*Side Profile

The Result:

Les Monts achieved $225,000 in gross sales within three years, with a return rate below 10%, well under the industry average of 25%. This success indicates that our product photography resonates with our audience and that our frames meet or exceed expectations upon arrival. I’m proud of the aesthetic consistency and mood we’ve cultivated in our imagery, which helps build the trust needed for online purchasing.
